Born in 1944, Janet was a life-long resident of Vista, California. She graduated from Vista High School in 1962, and attended Palomar Junior College.
Janet met her soul-mate and one true love, Bill, in Oceanside and married on March 20, 1962. Together, they had three beautiful children, ran several successful businesses, traveled the world, and watched their family grow during their 62 years of marriage.
She began a career with Vons right out of high school in 1963 working as an apprentice checker at Oceanside Store No. 53. With her hard-working and ambitious attitude, she climbed the ranks to checker, then bookkeeper, and later assistant in the money room at different locations in Southern California. She rose to Checker Instructor, and traveled across California playing a crucial role in the opening of new Vons locations. Throughout her employment with Vons, Janet was honored numerous times for her efficiency, customer rapport, and drive to promote the Vons brand. She was a Store Winner in the 1966 Checker of the Year, held the title of Queen of Friendliness and Efficiency in 1968, as well as District Queen in 1970 and 1971.
Although she retired in 1999, Janet’s business savvy drive kept her on her feet as she continued to run businesses with her husband, and later worked for the California DMV.
Janet is survived by her husband, Bill Reedy, son William Reedy, son John & Carrie Reedy, daughter Christy & Robby Storton; Grandchildren Christopher Garcia, Amber Easton, Erica Reedy, Adrina Hernandez, Anthony Hernandez, and Julian Hernandez; Sisters Diane Berry and Marlene Turner; Brother Bobby Christy; eight great-grandchildren, and an abundance of friends and family across the United States and Canada who cherished her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Edna Christy, and brother Kenny Christy. Our queen loved God, her soulmate Bill, life, traveling, jokes, oldies music, helping others, a “good deal”, but most importantly, she loved her family. Her family will miss her bright smile, caring attitude, holiday dinners, and her everyday presence in their lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Lutheran Church of Vista (1410 Foothill Drive) on Saturday, December 2nd at 11AM. Janet will be laid to rest at Eternal Hills Memorial Park next to her parents and brother at a later date.
