Jennie Moore of Winchester, CA passed away on Saturday, August 21st, 2021, surrounded (in-person and virtually) by her six children. She was 87 years old.
The third of four daughters, Jennie Elizabeth was born on July 17th, 1934, to Hector and Ruby in Dearborn, Michigan. She was an adorable little redhead that reminded some of Shirley Temple with how she loved to sing and dance. As a child, Jennie also loved to ice skate at the pond near her house. She would later share that passion with her children with frequent Sunday family outings to the ice rink. When she was 16, Jennie thought she heard God calling to her, so she dropped out of high school to join the convent. A rebel at heart, she, and some of her fellow “nuns-in-training,” would frequently sneak down to the kitchen to raid the sweets. Apparently, that call from God was a wrong number, which her six children get a kick out of, because she was “asked to leave” after not being ready to take her vows on more than one occasion. God had other plans for her. Sometime after leaving the convent and losing both her parents, Jennie drove her convertible from Michigan to California. It was there she met the love of her life, Roger Romeo Moore in Los Angeles. They married in August of 1961 and immediately started a family with their first daughter born in 1962. After three more children, they moved the family to Oceanside, California where they added two more kids to the brood. Her “Brady Bunch©” family (minus the much-needed live-in housekeeper) kept her extremely busy, but that didn’t stop her from helping others. Once all her six children were attending school, leaving the house empty during the day, instead of simply enjoying the solitude, she started caring for the children of some of the teachers at the elementary school. Jennie loved music, especially Neil Diamond. His songs could often be heard filling the house and despite her aversion to large indoor gatherings (due to her claustrophobia), at 55 years old, she happily joined her daughter, Julie, when surprised with concert tickets. She touched many lives, young and old alike. Known as Miss Jennie to many, with her beautiful blue eyes and infectious smile, she lived a life of service working with those struggling with alcohol addiction. She was loved by so many in the North San Diego County community. Jennie remained in Oceanside until 2019 when she moved with her youngest daughter, Debbie, to Winchester, California.
Jennie is survived by her six children, all residing in California: Darlene and husband Robert, Cameron Park; Gary and wife Kathryn (K.C.), Morgan Hill; Julie and husband Christian, Orange; Daniel and wife Valerie, Oceanside; Johnny and ex-wife Stephanie, Oceanside; and Debra (Debbie), Winchester. She was “Nana” to her nine grandchildren: Janine, Robbie, Samantha, Ashley, Deanna, Aubrey, Brenna, Roger, and Brayden, two great-granddaughters, Kadence and Ayva, and not to be forgotten her beloved Cali-Girl (Debbie’s Doberman). She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and her three sisters, Margaret (Peggy), Mary, and Rose.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Old Mission Church of Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside, California at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the North County Alano Club in Oceanside.
