

John (Johnny) Moreland Maddox, Jr. of Valley Center, California passed away Thursday, March 23rd, 2023. John was born December 4th, 1945 in Cordele, Georgia. John was preceded in death by his parents John Moreland Maddox, Sr. and Ruby Lynn Gordon Maddox both of Cordele, GA. John’s loving wife of 48 years, Lula Maddox, is currently a resident of Valley Center, California. John and Lula were previous residents of Oceanside, California and Delaware, Ohio.
John was the father of four children, John Maddox, Lisa Dye, David Maddox, and Crystal Gammie. John leaves behind 10 grandchildren (Melissa Sinor, Jonathan Martin, Nathaniel Dye, Britney Santana, Ashley Santana, Hailey Santana, Bradley Maddox, Andrew Maddox, Emorie Maddox, Jon Thomas Maddox, and Daisy McDonald. John and Lula also have 4 great grandchildren (Audrey Mann, Thalia Sanchez, Ella Sinor, Sloane Sinor).
John Maddox was a 1963 graduate of Crisp County High School in Cordele GA. John was a member of Peavy United Methodist Church in Cordele and was president of the MYF during his high school years. John was an avid athlete and played both football and baseball at Crisp County High School and lettered in baseball, excelling on both the field and in the classroom.
John was a 1965 graduate of Middle Georgia College with an AS in Engineering Science and is a 1967 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with a degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering. John began his career in the field of aeronautic design in the state of Georgia and later transitioned to transit bus and associated systems design, project management, and global sales across the US with companies such as Lockheed, North American Rockwell, Grumman, Wide One Corporation, NABI, BAE, and others.
Later in his career, John worked in the field of hybrid fuel technologies and sales for the transit bus segment and started his own consulting firm named Transit Bus Technical Advisors (TBTA) just prior to his retirement in 2017. John made a career of supporting the transit industry for over 50 years.
John Maddox leaves behind a great legacy in both work and family and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
