

Katie Mae Jackson was born on April 24, 1924 in Bolton, Mississippi. She was the 3rd child born to Janie Bell Lauless and Ezell Poats. She was one of 12 children, 7 of whom preceded her in death.
Katie accepted Christ at an early age. She attended St. Margaret’s Parrish in Oceanside, California for many years until her heath began to fail.
In 1942 she married the late Johnnie Lee Harris. To this union, two children were born, Gladys Lee (who preceded her in death), and Phillip John.
In 1967 she married Grover L. Jackson. They were happily married for over 47 years. They loved to ride their Harley Davidson motorcycle, and logged many miles on it together.
Katie loved animals and over the years had many pets. Her recent favorites included her miniature schnauzer “Tanya” (who preceded her in death), a sand tortoise “George”, and her cockatoo “Popcorn”. She worked for the Marine Corps Exchange on Camp Pendleton for 20 years and enjoyed retirement since 1989.
Katie was called from labor to reward on August 15, 2014, at her home in Oceanside, California, where she resided for over 46 years.
She leaves to cherish the memories of her wonderful life, her loving and devoted husband Grover, son Phillip (Cynthia) Harris, of Vista, CA, three sisters, Mary Lee Smith of Orlando, FL., Mary Francis (George) Benard of Gary, IN., Mazie King of Jackson, MS. One brother, Ezell Poats of Gary, IN., brother-in-law Cecil (Liz) Jackson of Germantown, MD., sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Mazie Hampton of Altadena, CA., granddaughter Shannon (Chester) Hicks of San Antonio, TX., nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends.
