Kaz as he was known to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2022 in Vista, California where he resided for 69 of his 94 years.
Kaz grew up in Southern California and after a brief period serving honorably in the army, spent a majority of his working years farming tomatoes with his brother Hide for K&H Chino Farms. After retiring from farming, Kaz, a tireless worker, spent an additional 20 years overseeing concrete foundation work on various public and private construction projects throughout California.
Kaz’s interests included golfing at El Camino Country Club, watching sports especially pro basketball, college football, golf, and anything his grandsons played, spending hours in his garage workshop creating project after project, fixing things around the house, and helping out his friends and family. Later in life, his primary passion was his garden, growing many fruits and vegetables with his wife Betty. He had a generous heart and always enjoyed handing out fruits, vegetables, or his latest creations while throwing in the occasional joke.
Kaz is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty, his son and daughter-in law Richard and Michelle Chino and grandsons, Matthew and Christopher; and his daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Dean Phillips and grandson Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother Hide, his sister Chizu, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a lunch planned on September 24th to celebrate his life. Time and location will be communicated through the family.
