Larry Thomas Ogilvie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on January 16, 1944, in Sesser, Illinois to Thomas Ogilvie and Ruth Cockrum, Larry spent his early years in the Midwest before heading west to California — the place that would shape his spirit and become his lifelong home.
Larry was the definition of young-at-heart. Even in his eighties, he could often be found in a backwards baseball cap and tank top, embracing the sunshine and easy-going charm of a true Californian. He was supportive, loving, hard working and endlessly creative — the kind of man who brought joy with him everywhere he went.
Professionally, Larry made his mark in aerospace management at Rohr Industries, overseeing the design of airplane engines and traveling internationally — including memorable trips to Russia where he returned home with stories and souvenirs. Earlier in life, he served in the U.S. Army, where he worked on a confidential project he spoke of only in hints. Over the years, his mysterious stories — combined with his quiet confidence and sharp eye — led many friends and family to jokingly suspect that he might actually have been an undercover CIA agent.
Larry’s passions were many. He grew up racing cars in Illinois and later cruised through California in his convertible red Mustang with the top down, savoring the warm desert wind on family trips to Palm Springs. He loved cameras, technology, magic tricks, card games, rock and roll music, baseball, basketball, yard work, and barbecues in the backyard. He was famous for elaborate Halloween decorations, late-night scares around the neighborhood, and the porch dummy prank — complete with walkie-talkie communication — that startled generations of trick-or-treaters.
Family was the center of Larry’s world. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Carmen, with whom he shared every adventure — from camping and motorhome trips to cruises, vacations in Cabo, and quiet sunset walks in their later years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, tradition, and unwavering companionship.
Larry was a proud father and grandfather who led by example. He believed in perseverance through life’s challenges, the value of a strong work ethic, and showing up day after day with integrity and purpose. Just as important to him were humor and playfulness — he never lost his sense of fun, his curiosity, or his ability to bring a smile to those around him. Whether through encouragement, laughter, or simply being present, Larry left a lasting impression on his family, teaching lessons that will continue to guide future generations.
Larry believed deeply in God, in family, and in living a good, generous life. He listened fully, loved wholeheartedly, and gave of himself constantly. Those who knew him will forever remember his kindness, humor, youthful spirit, and unmistakable laugh.
