Laura was born on May 14, 1932, in Pittsburg, MO to William Glen McCaslin and Olive Jewel Brown. She graduated from Hermitage High School in Hermitage, MO and then moved to Santa Monica, Ca, where she met and married Bill Porter and started a family. She proudly served as a nurse for over 40 years and got great joy in caring for people. She retired from Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Community at age 70 and enjoyed her later years at her home in Oceanside, Ca. Affectionately known as “Honey”, Laura had a large family that meant everything to her and who she would do anything to make happy. She was married to Bill for 70 years. She loved her dogs dearly, got so much joy from watching the birds and working in her garden, could out shop anyone, and could usually always be found with her trusty can of Coca Cola by her side. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make everyone smile.
Laura is preceded in death by her husband Bill, sons Michael John and Roger Allen, parents Glen McCaslin and Olive Lightfoot, brother Alfred Steven Lightfoot. She is survived by son William Phillip, daughter in law Marsha Porter, sister Rose Ann (Phil) Foerstel, brothers Albert Hardin Lightfoot and Todd Lightfoot Jr., grandchildren Melissa Pryor, Phillip (Julie) Porter, Amanda (Erik) Hendrix, great-grandchildren Chelsie, Justin, Tayler, Michael, Isaac, as well as 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Honey had a heart of gold and will be missed greatly by friends and family alike. To know her is to love her and there are so many memories of funny moments, adventures, and loving gestures that we will all carry in our hearts forever.
“In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place no one could ever fill… It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For a part of us went with you the day God called you home.”
