Loane Ina Foreman, the last of the twelve children from the marriage of James Walter Campbell and Sarah Margaret Lodema Robinson (Campbell), has passed away on March 21, 2024, at the age of 98 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
Loane was preceded in death by her eleven Campbell siblings, (Ruby, Elsa Lodema, Margaret Ann, Ida, Emma May, Victor James, Cecil Roy, Leitha Irene, Charles Leo, Evelin Dorothy & Lois Irene) and her three husbands (Ernest Farrant, Edward Woolacott & Tom Foreman).
Loane was the youngest of the twelve Campbell children (9 girls & 3 boys) and lived to be the oldest at her passing.
She leaves behind her two children (Connie Olson & Bill Farrant [Sue]), three grandchildren (Eric Olson, Bill Farrant (Cassie) and Kim Madison (Zach) and three great granddaughters (Isabela & Rachel Farrant and Peyton Madison).
Loane was born April 3, 1925, in Morse, Saskatchewan, Canada and had a twin sister (Lois).
Her father, James Campbell, had severely injured his back lifting/carrying large ice blocks and was paralyzed and bedridden. The children would care for him each day before leaving for school. This formed a tight knit bond between all the siblings as throughout the years, they would meet for Campbell Family Reunions at beautiful resorts throughout Canada. (As Loane’s son, Bill, those Family Reunions were the best part of growing up as a part of the Campbell Clan).
One simple story about how the siblings cared for one another.
Mom had been acting up and her mother wanted her disciplined. Since her father was bedridden, the disciplinarian became her oldest brother, Vic. Vic took his younger sister Loane into a bedroom and closed the door. He then instructed her to make noise and feign crying as he hit the bed but not her. What a BIG Brother!
World War II began and Loane left Saskatchewan and moved to Toronto where she worked in a munitions plant, high explosives. This is where she met her first husband Ernest Farrant. Both worked shift hours, so they often went to breakfast and shows in the morning. They were married and lived in Toronto after the war – Daughter Connie was born November 23, 1945.
The three of them then moved to Ottawa where they worked for the government for several years. To augment their income, Loane took swimming lessons, became a licensed instructor, and worked at the beach in the summer.
On August 27, 1954, son Bill was born, and he was a joy for Loane and a toy for Connie.
On June 22, 1959, Ernie died in a car accident.
Ernie had been taking an electronics course and his instructor was Edward (Ted) Woolacott. After about a year they began dating and then in 1963 elected to move to California and get married. Their marriage day was November 22, 1963 – Yes, that is the same day that JFK was assassinated. They had rented a plane and flown to Tijuana, Mexico (Just south of San Diego) and it was complicated for them to return based on all the heightened security associated with the President’s murder.
Loane and Ted lived the American dream for a while as they bought a house and built a second house on the property and then repeated that step and moved so they had four houses generating rent each month. Ater Ted had several heart attacks they scaled back, sold all five homes, and bought a double wide mobile home in Westminster, Ca. (Orange County). They loved it! Lots of people the same age, many parties in the clubhouse and in their homes and Mom began a painting class. This led to many, many paintings over the years that are now hanging in the homes of family and friends. Loane also attended the exercise classes and bible study classes.
Ted passed away from an aortic aneurysm on May 5, 1988.
Loane remained in the Westminster double wide until 1997 when she moved to a two-bedroom condominium in Rancho Bernardo (North San Diego). Loane joined the Senior Center where they had ballroom dance classes, and this is where she met Tom Foreman.
On February 10, 2001, Loane married Tom Foreman at The Little Church of the West in Las Vegas. They moved to Escondido and attended the Friendship Church around the corner from where they lived. When they realized how close the church was, Loane felt that she had finally come home.
Loane and Tom had many great adventures to include: Drove to Lexington, Ky for Tom’s Navy Reunion; Cruise through the Panama Canal; Cruise to the Bahamas from Ft. Lauderdale; Cruise to Yucatan, Belize, Cancun and again through the Panama Canal, Family Reunion in Parry Sound; Drove to Calgary to visit Loane’s sister Dorothy; Another drive to Calgary, Banff, Regina, Vancouver, Vancouver Island; Drive to Visalia, Ca. to visit Tom’s daughter Judy (Rich) and then to Livermore (Bay Area) to visit Bill & Sue Farrant and family; And finally they attended the 2017 Campbell Family Reunion in Ottawa (Props to Scott Campbell for hosting them – Tom & Loane referred to Scott as a PRINCE)
When Loane and Tom returned from Ottawa, they decided it was time to sell their home and move into an Assisted Living facility. Much better for both as all meals are provided so there is no need to drive for groceries, etc.
Tom passed away on December 9, 2022, at 101 years old. Loane is finally following him, so they will be together again – She has told this to me many times, so I just believe!
