

Matematega Mao Lefiti was born on August 14, 1934 in Fagatogo, American Samoa. He is the son of Faitasi Lefiti and Faatoto Afoa Lefiti and was raised by Setefano Sito and Magamagaifatuga Tauala Sito. He is survived by his 11 brothers: Fiataugaluia Afoafouvale Faitasi Lefiti, Tulelepu’ailama Faitasi Lefiti, Faleuila Faitasi Lefiti, Faafetaileatua Lefiti Faitasi Lefiti, Faamanuilealii Faitasi Lefiti, Faolua Lausalako Lefiti, Taulepeti Savea Lefiti, Talamotu Afoa, Tasiaeafe Afoa, Faamafu Tupuola Afoa, and Penu Tupuola Afoa and 4 sisters: Loimataimaataua Faitasi Lefiti, Faletoluolefaleula Punaoa Lefiti Setoga, Tolualiiolefagaloamauga Lutumanutoa Fuaitasaga Lefiti Aga, and Edna Fiatagata McFarland Setefano Faivae. On August 27, 1960 he married Tina Sofala Maiava Lefiti. He is a parent to 6 children. Beverly and Joe Pelesasa of Tacoma, Washington, Joe and Sue Lefiti of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Lillian and Tuisaole Puaauli of Oceanside, CA, Edna and Jimmy Williams of East Dublin, Georgia, John and Jenny Lefiti, and Leroy and Gail Lefiti of Walton Beach, Florida. Matematega is a grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He received his AA from Palomar College in 1979. Matematega Mao Lefiti, a veteran of 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corp, and 20 years of civil service. While in the Marine Corp he earned several awards and decorations. Matematega Mao Lefiti lived in Oceanside for 41 years and was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Vista. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He left this earth to be with our heavenly father on Monday July 18th 2011. He will be dearly missed and will always be remembered and loved, by many, as “The Man with the Plan”.
