Melissa Maki Shinn

Melissa was born September 3, 1965 in Kochi, Japan. When she was young her family moved to California and she grew up in San Fernando Valley, CA. During her life she worked as a real estate agent in Oceanside, CA.

Her interests included spending time with her children and her bulldog (Charlie), watching movies, and going to her favorite local restaurants with friends. She found joy in being in the kitchen and cooking up feasts for everyone. At a young age, Melissa fell in love classic rock including Led Zepplin, Van Halen, AC/DC, and Metallica. Her love for music played an influential role in her kids lives and it’s hard to hear a rock song and not think of Melissa.

She was known for her free spirit and selfless acts for those she loved. Melissa lived a life without regrets and found fulfillment in following her heart. She always knew how to have fun and was never scared to be the first one on the dance floor. Melissa taught her children to be courageous and to never let life stop them from doing the things they love. She loved Harleys and classic American muscle cars like her 1969 Mach 1 Mustang, which was her dream car.

She is survived by her sons Shane, Sean, and Chris Brewer; her daughter Heather Brewer; her sisters Nancy and Kathy; and her parents George and Tammy Ito.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kristen whom she loved dearly.
