

Melo-Dee Glorene Hufferd was born June 18, 1936 in Knoxville, Iowa to coal miner Everett H. Johnston and E. Levon Johnston. During the Depression, the family moved to Ottumwa, Iowa to live with her grandparents, Edward and Sadie Evans. She graduated in 1954 from Ottumwa High School with a Rolscreen Scholarship to attend Central College in Pella, Iowa. In 1955 she married Roger I. Hufferd and would have celebrated 70 years on Nov 27, 2025.
In 1956, Melo-Dee accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and dedicated many years as pianist and soloist in several Baptist churches witnessing in His name. After relocating to Oceanside, California in 1970, Melo-Dee worked for 26 years as a Library Assistant within the Oceanside Unified School District. She enjoyed traveling to London and New York City to see theater performances. In retirement, she began painting, playing bridge, attending film festivals, swimming with Water-X, and taking part in her husband’s Barbershop singing hobby.
Preceding Melo-Dee are her parents, grandparents, a baby sister Melva Millamay, and her son Jay Donovan. Surviving Melo-Dee are her husband Roger, son Guy Roger Hufferd and his wife Cyndi, Jay’s widow Arely, grandson Quinton Guy Hufferd, his wife Ashlie and their four children, granddaughter Jessica Pauline Howard, her husband Beau, and their four children, and grandson Joshua Everett Hufferd and his wife Michelle.
Committal service will be held following the funeral at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California.
