On December 30, 1964, a handsome baby boy, Nathan Porter III, was born to the proud parents of Nathan Porter II and Maria Laguna in Los Angeles, Ca. While living in Los Angeles, he also lived with his godparents, Ida Jean and Willie Southall after losing his father at a early age. Nathan accepted Christ at an early age. Nathan attended Ascot Elementary, Bunche Middle School and Centennial High School. Due to some violent activities, Nathan quickly moved to Oceanside, where he graduated from Oceanside High School.
While attending Bunche Middle School, he met Annie in the 7th grade at the age of 13, where this beautiful friendship started. Nathan and Annie got married in 1985. To this union, two beautiful children were born, Nathan and Natisha Porter. Nathan and Annie have been friends for over 45 years, Until he left to be with the Lord. In 1983, Nathan began his career at McDonald’s on Canyon Drive, as a cook. Nathan was very ambitious and self-motivated, and quickly got promoted to shift lead, then assistant manager from then on to becoming General Manager, and then District Manager, where he over-saw many stores in the San Diego regional area. Nathan was very devoted to his career and gained many lifelong friends and mentors like his step-father James Jackson aka Pops.
In the late 80’s, Nathan met Evelyn. They were together for 19 years, but had a friendship for 39 years. To this union, a beautiful baby girl was born named Geneva Porter. Also, during this time, his son Nathan Jr., at the age of 14, moved to Oceanside to live with his dad to learn how to become a man. We, the parents of Nathan Jr., decided it was in the best interest for the move. Our son and daughter were lucky enough to have had two sets of parents. Nathan and Evelyn, and Frank and Annie.
Nathan was a great family man and enjoyed spending time with his family. While having family days and sitting around the house, one of his relaxations was listening to his Oldies and R&B music, Nathan and Evelyn loved taking trips to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Cabo, Arizona, and Louisiana. (Just to name a few). Some of his favorite hobbies included bowling, playing dominoes with brothers while talking crap, playing Spades with his favorite cousin Frank, throwing parties, and BBQing for the family. Even though it was 7 brothers, and 1 sister, Nathan and Nick were very close, but alway had brotherly arguments and showed each other plenty of love.
Nate’s favorite pastime was going to the racetrack and betting on the horses, and let’s not forget his favorite football team was the Washington Redskins (The Commanders). With all the great experiences at McDonald’s, he began a career at Smash Burgers for 5 years. Later, down the years, he met his wife, Angela. To this union, two beautiful children were born, Hannah and Jonathan. He loved spending time with Hannah and Jonathan, taking them outside to play and adventures to Legoland.
Nathan was a great father to his children and a great mentor to his nieces and nephews. An equally wonderful uncle. He was hard-working and dedicated to taking care of his own, NOT JUST HIS KIDS but his family. He didn’t give handouts; he gave out real life lessons, ways to support and provide for ourselves if we really wanted it. If you needed money, and went to Nate, you would get a job and that’s how you would get your money. Just like him, through work. He also said, "you can go places with hard work and commitment". Nathan was straight forward and no bull crap. Nathan didn’t make empty promises and didn’t kiss anybody’s’ butt but still managed to be loving, kind, funny, argumentative, and encouraging.
Nathan set goals in his life. His was a trustworthy man when it came down to taking care of business and his children. He was reliable, dependable, and always willing to compromise. He was a man of great confidence, and had a great sense of humor. He was generously made, and always thinking and blessing others. Even when he knew people would take his kindness for weakness. In the words of Nathan, “It’s a man’s world but it would mean nothing without a woman or a girl”. Nathan is Heaven bound with his father, Nathan Porter II, his mother, Maria Leguna, and his sister, Trina Wilson and god parents Ida and Willie.
Nathan leaves to cherish his beloved family, his 5 children, Nathan Jr., Natisha, Geneva, Hannah, and Jonathan, his 6 brothers, Ricky, Nicky, Sam, Clint, Joseph and Lavonce, 1 grandson, Nathan Jay, his godson, Tomasi, Auntie Alice, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.eternalhillsmortuary.com for the Porter family.
