

Phillip was born March 19, 1931 in Liberal, KS, to Walter Shelton Ferguson and Alta Byers Ferguson. He attended Liberal, KS schools; graduating from Liberal, KS High School with the Class of 1949.
Phillip worked with his father in his electrical business and other jobs earning his way through college. College was interrupted by the Korean War, where Phillip served in an Army counter battery intelligence unit near the front lines.
After his military service ended, he returned to college and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Architecture. It was at Kansas State where he met his future wife, Annetta Louise Sorrell. They married in 1959 shortly after he graduated and then moved to California.
Pursuing his career in Architecture took him to Woodland, CA. His three children Tod, Teri and Traci were born in Woodland. With a houseful of noisy little ones Phillip managed to study and passed the California State Board and became a licensed Architect.
Phillip and his family spent some time in Fresno and San Jose, CA as he continued to hone his skills in the field of Architecture; settling in Vista, CA in 1969.
Phillip opened his own architectural firm in Vista in 1972. For twenty years he designed, built, and inspected buildings in San Diego County. He also earned licenses as a Real Estate Broker and General Building Contractor.
Phillip was a faithful Christian his entire life, serving the body of Christ as Choir member, Deacon, and Elder. He served the community in Kiwanis, YMCA, Vista Beautiful, and on numerous boards and committees. He supported his architectural profession as an officer of the North San Diego branch of A.I.A.
The last 15 years of his life he waged a valiant fight against Parkinson’s, never complaining about the loss of his mobility or the pain that accompanied the disease. Before the disease slowed him down, he enjoyed his passions of Tennis and Travel.
Phillip was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend and employer. He is now and will continue to be greatly missed.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elburn Ferguson, sister-in law Helen Ferguson; brother’s in-law Don Carlile; Cecil Winkel and Bruce Sorrell; nephews Terry Carlile and Chris Green; niece Cindy Green. Surviving Phillip are his wife Annetta Ferguson of the home and twin sister Phyllis Carlile of Topeka Kansas; Children Tod and Tina Ferguson, of San Diego, CA, Teri Acosta of Vista, CA, George and Traci Ennis of Goodyear, AZ; nine grandchildren, sisters and brother in laws, Bernice Winkel of Glen Elder, KS, Larry and Betty Green of Mesa, AZ, Harold and Bonnie Burnett of Scott City, KS and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
