Phyllis Dee Williams (Daniels) passed away on Thursday, April 11th, 2024 at age 86. Phyllis was born on April 10th, 1938 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Leon Daniels (immigrant from Romania) and Ruth Daniels (Cohen) (immigrant from Ukraine).
Born with cerebral palsy and the daughter of Eastern European Jewish immigrants who fled pogroms and persecution in their homeland, Phyllis learned to survive and thrive in an era not often accommodating towards people with her condition through personal courage, self-advocacy and inspiring the love and fierce loyalty of her family. Prior to marrying her husband Louis in 1968, Phyllis served as a congressional page for the Nebraska State Legislature, an elevator operator for a major department store in New York City and a Nurse’s Aide at National Jewish Hospital in Denver. An outstanding housewife and mother as her highest priority, Phyllis also performed in the Catharsis Community Theater troupe along with her husband. Following her husband’s retirement, Phyllis resided in Florida and Kentucky before ultimately residing in California. Phyllis belonged to Congression Tifereth Israel in Lincoln, NE and Temple Sinai in Denver, CO.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Louis R. Williams, Jr, her first-born daughter Sherry Williams and her beloved older sister Anita Churches (Daniels). She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Williams and Brenda Janssen; her grandchildren, Rowan Williams and Adrianna Janssen; and her nieces/nephew, Stephanie Rossi (Churches), Barbara Murray (Churches) and Daniel Churches.
Phyllis’ life and legacy will be honored by friends and family at a catered Memorial Service to be held on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 from 11am – 3pm at her son Jeff’s home in Aurora, Colorado.
