Sean Michael Petro was an only son, a brilliant young man, and a loyal friend. Sean was So close to his goals of finishing medical school and attending flight school as an officer in the US Navy. He would have been the kind of doctor that you would want to take care of you. The kind that would have your best interest in mind. A truly selfless individual. He was an avid guitar player, and had even built one from scratch in high school. He enjoyed being outdoors, photography, music, and making other people happy. He would always go out of his way to put a smile on your face. He was a shining start to his family and friends, and left this would way too soon.
Sean was born in La Jolla, California and grew up in Poway. Along the way he went to Garden Road Elementary, Twin Peaks Middle School, and was a graduate of the class of 2009 at Poway High School. Sean lost his father at 15, and although he had the opportunity to attend many prestigious universities, he decided to stay home for college to be close to his mother. He loved his job at the E.S.S. after school program and was known by the kids a Mr. Sean. He worked throughout his undergraduate program both at Palomar College and UCSD, graduating Magna Cum Laude in Biology in 2013. He was in his third year at USC Keck School of Medicine and joined the Navy as an officer. He just graduated from the Officer Development School in Rhode Island, class 16040 this May. In his short career in medicine, Sean had several medical publications that are used to his day to improve healthcare and health policy.
Sean was preceded in death by his father John M. Petro Jr., his paternal grandparents John M. and Margaret V. Petro and his uncle Anthony J. Weber.
Sean will be deeply missed by his mother Cheryl Petro Collier and his step father Russell Collier. He is survived by his maternal grandmother Agnes McElfresh of Irwin, Pennsylvania and his uncles and aunts John McElfresh of Irwin, PA, Carl Mlinarich (Lorretta) of Orlando, FL, Henry (Hank) Mlinarich (Faye) Clifton, Co-Darlene Snyder (Gary) North of Huntingdon, PA, and Tammy Kelley (Paul) of North Huntingdon, PA. He leaves numerous cousins and Ann Green who he lovingly called Grandma Ann. Sean will also be missed by whom he called his second family, Dr. Stephen Lee, Dr. Roneet Lev, Elan, Oren, Keren and Ariella Lee.
