After a lifetime of service in the priesthood, Fr. Don Veale rests in the peace of the Lord. Your prayers are asked for the faithful departed.
Fr. Don was born in St. Louis and grew up in Pittsburgh. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954 and went on to attain a Master's Degree at Philadelphia Divinity School. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1959 at his home church of St. Peter's, where his father was rector and where he had spent his boyhood.
Lifelong friendships flourished from the congregations Fr. Don served throughout his ministry. Though he retired in 1996, he took great joy in corresponding with parishioners for many years thereafter, and his ministry continued to the end of his life with prayer and daily devotions.
Fr. Don was also a talented painter and photographer, loved comedy, sports, and movies, and never tired of telling stories about growing up a stone's throw from Forbes Field. He remained a true son of Pittsburgh all his life, and followed the fortunes of his black and gold teams from wherever he was called.
In gratitude for his long life and ministry, his family has made an offering at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Pittsburgh. Those wishing to honor his memory may also make donations to the Walk-in Ministry at the Cathedral, 328 6th Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
