Thomas E. Grier MD

Dr. Thomas Edward Grier September 30, 1928 - June 2, 2017 Carlsbad Devoted husband and loving father, Dr. Thomas Edward Grier passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, June 2, 2017. He was the youngest of three sons, born to Dr. Maurice Edward Grier and Olive Jenkins Grier on September 30, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska.Tom met Jeanne Roncka, his wife of 62 years, at Creighton University in Omaha. They married in June 1954 at St. Margaret Mary's Church. He graduated from Creighton Medical School in 1955. Then he finished his internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, and his residency at Mercy Hospital in Chicago in obstetrics and gynecology. Tom joined the Navy Reserve and was assigned to Camp Pendleton, California, from 1959 to 1961. The young family returned to Omaha, but had fallen in love with the California weather, and so moved to Carlsbad in 1966. Tom started his practice in Oceanside at Cassidy Clinic, and later participated in the move out to Cassidy Medical Arts by Tri-City Hospital. For more than 38 years he helped bring new life into this world. His dedication showed in his practice, giving both professional and personal care. Tom was well-loved by hospital staff and patients alike. He was an active member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.He was preceded in death by his father Maurice, mother Olive, and brother Maurie. He is survived by his wife Jeanne; his children Edward Grier (Donna), Judith Coats (John), Cynthia Grier, and Karen Howard (Brian); his grandchildren Diana Jensen (Jonathan), Dr. Elizabeth Swift (Joshua Morris), John Grier, Sgt. Kelly Stratton (Jacquelyn), and Katherine Stratton (Bo Kaufman); and his great-grandchildren Tyler Stratton, Spencer Kaufman, and Jayden JensenTom's memorial service will be at St. Patrick's Church, 3821 Adams Street, Carlsbad, 92008, on June 22 at 10 a.m. (rosary at 9:30 a.m.) with a reception following.
