

PGA Golf Professional…
Beloved, faithful, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on Veterans Day 2021.
Preceded in death by his wife of 68Yrs MaryLou, 5 brothers, mother & father all of North Carolina.
He is survived by his children
Holly, LuLong, Eddie, Molly & Polly
(their families, 13 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren), his brother Stewart and his family of High Point, NC.
A longtime resident of Oceanside he grew up in High Point, NC graduating from Wake Forest University where he was a scholarship basketball player!
He met his lovely bride there and together they continued to the University of Tennessee to obtain their Masters degrees!
Bill however was drafted into the Marines where he served in the Korean War, 29 Palms, & Camp Pendleton.
He became a Golf Pro in the 1950’s and went on to serve the military at the Marine Memorial Camp Pendleton golf course for over 25 years.
While there he raised his family, fell in love with the game of golf, taught the game of golf to all including juniors, servicemen, generals, and even US Presidents!
A lifetime member of the PGA of America he was quite the athlete earning SCPGA Golfer of the year many times and qualifying to play in several PGA Celebrity Golf Tournament’s, as the Bob Hope, Andy Williams, etc.. His children tagged along, caddied occasionally and were very proud of their Dad!
After serving the military, his interests in golf grew and he helped & brought to fruition the development of Vista Valley Country Club where he served as their Golf Pro for many years also.
In his last years…as he served his ailing wife…he enjoyed his growing family, recreational golf, giving golf lessons, and watching sports & politics on TV!
He will be remembered for his patriotism, sportsmanship, fun, laughter, and kindness to all who knew him and those who played the game of golf!
