Gunnery Sergeant USMC (Retired)
Retired Gunnery Sergeant William E. Hokama passed away at age 82 on December 21, 2014, at home with his wife at his side.
William was born in the small town of Wailuku, Maui, and moved with his family to Kaneohe, Hawaii on the island of Oahu in 1947. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1972. He was stationed in North Carolina, Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Camp Pendleton. William lived in Oceanside for 48 years. He enjoyed visiting with his family, friends, neighbors, and especially walking his beloved dog.
William is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Kiyoko, his siblings Celine Asato (Kenneth), Sybil Higuchi (David), Kenneth Hokama (Toshiko), Nancy Minuth, his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and his dog, Sakura
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park (Oceanside) from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Church of Saint Thomas More in Oceanside. Burial will immediately follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family requests that donations be made in William’s memory to the Saint Thomas More Church in lieu of flowers.
