Bill was born on July 4, 1934, in Maryville, TN, to Isaac and Ethel Porter and lived a life of service to his country serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, to his friends, who were many, and to his family, which is large. He retired at the age of 80 from Superior Ready Mix after working for thirty years in a position he loved. He was the type of person we should all aspire to be – caring of his fellow man, caring for his family, and ready to face any challenge head-on, shouldering each with a smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Ethel, sister, Otha, brother, Joe, sister, Lucille, and sons, Michael and Roger. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Laura Evelyn, son, William Phillip, daughter in law, Marsha, sister, Daphane and Eddie Barker, grandchildren, Melissa Pryor, Phillip and Julie Porter, and Amanda and Erik Hendrix. Great grandchildren- Chelsie, Justin, Tayler, Michael, and Isaac, as well as 6 great-great grandchildren.
There could never be enough stories, never enough words, to express how much he will be missed by those who kne w him and love him, but we are all comforted by the memories we have, which will always bring smiles, even through the sadness of loss.
“We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when, but I know we’ll meet again some sunny day. Keep smiling through, just like you always do, ‘till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away…”
