Born on August 4, 1942, in Ogdensburg, Bonnie was the youngest child of William and Isabel Burns. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1961 and went on to build a long and dedicated career, working at Newell Manufacturing in both Ogdensburg and Freeport, Illinois; Mort Backus & Sons; Saturn of Las Vegas; and Allstate Insurance, also in Las Vegas. After many years away, she returned to her hometown in 2006.
Bonnie was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Sue (Ed) Bush; and her brothers, Bill (Irene), Ken (Connie), and Ron (Georgie). She is survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, as well as many dear friends and neighbors who will miss her deeply.
A stubborn and fiercely independent woman, Bonnie faced life—and her final challenge—with honesty, strength, and faith. Her niece and goddaughter, Ellen, was by her side at the hospital, where Bonnie passed in comfort.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her neighbors and “adopted family,” John and Becca Downey and their daughters, for the love, care, and companionship they shared with Bonnie.
Bonnie found joy in the simple pleasures of life: time with family and friends, browsing thrift stores, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and trips to the casino. She would want to leave the world with these words: “Love each other, pray the rosary and eat the cake.”
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral. Condolences and fond memories may be shared online at www.foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
