

Funeral services for Bryan M. Smithers, age 52 of Norfolk and formerly of Heuvelton will be held on Thursday (July 12, 2012) at 11:00am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Don Curry, Pastor of the New Testament Church in Massena officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Eel Weir at a later date.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2:00- 6:00pm at the funeral home. Bryan died early Monday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Surviving are his two sons Bryan and Matthew Smithers of Heuvelton; two brothers David Smithers of Fort Kent. ME and Larry Smithers & his wife Kim of Heuvelton; a sister Paula Sias & her husband Franklin of Fayetteville, NC; nieces & nephews Corie, Warren & David Sias, Michael, Bobbie Jo, Crystal & Peter Smithers; his companion Amy Wilson of Louisville and his former wife and friend Michele Smithers.
Bryan was born on December 9, 1959 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late Bryan “David” & Norma Jean (Roach) Smithers. He graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1978 and continued his education at SUNY Canton College of Technology. He married Michele Murray on June 5, 1982 at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. The couple’s marriage later ended in divorce, but they remained good friends.
His career began at Nate’s Auto Parts and Collins Motors prior to joining the NYS Department of Corrections team in 1985. He retired in 2011 after dedicating 26 years of service and holding rank of Sergeant. Bryan enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing and watching DUKE University Basketball. He was a past member of the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department, a Boy Scout Troop Leader, a member of NYSCOBPA and CIU.
