

Funeral services for Cecil S. Duvall Sr., age 85 formerly of Union Street in Heuvelton will be held on Thursday (March 22, 2012) at 1:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton with military honors.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (March 21, 2012) from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Duvall died early Thursday morning at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus where he had been a resident since 2011.
Surviving are five sons, Ronald and his wife Marie of Columbia, MD, Cecil Jr. & his wife Katie, Michael and his wife Linda both of Park City, UT, Neil and his wife June of Canton, and Gary Duvall & his companion Sandra “Sam” Downing of Heuvelton; 13 grandchildren Brett, Brian & Todd Duvall, Mrs. William (Susan) Pidwell, Lance Duvall, David & Scott Belford, Jason Davis, Andrew Corey, Matthew, Dillon and Cody Duvall; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Susan, the mother of his 6 sons; a son David at age 12 from a farming accident; two sisters Lillian Wedge and Agnes Darling; brothers Arthur, Lester, Edward, Clarence, Albert & William.
Cecil was born in Waddington, NY on April 4, 1926 a son of the late William J. & Emily (Edwards) Duvall. The family moved to the Heuvelton area where he attended schools in Kokomo, Town of DePeyster and received his High School diploma from Heuvelton Central School. He served in the US Navy, Atlantic Theater; during WWII aboard the Navy ship LST54. After his discharge, he married Susan Marcellus, RN on Jan 28, 1945.
The couple operated a farm on the McAllister Road in Rensselaer Falls until 1970. Mrs. Duvall worked as a registered Nurse at Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. She died on February 10, 1973.
Also while farming, Mr. Duvall worked on the construction of Heuvelton Central School from 1952 – 1954, on the Seaway Construction Project in Massena from 1954 – 1958, and later on the new campus of Canton College during the 1970’s. He married Mrs. Betty Richards on December 29, 1982 and she died in 1984. A later marriage to Mrs. Edna Lake ended in divorce. Mr. Duvall worked as a bus driver for Heuvelton Central School from 1966 – 2005 and was also a car salesman for Mort Backus & Sons, Ogdensburg for 4 years. He was a member of the VFW in Ogdensburg and the Heuvelton Am-Vets.
