

A Funeral Mass for Ellen “Phyllis” Ritchie, age 94 of Barre Street in Ogdensburg, will be held at 10:00am on Friday (Jan 22, 2016) at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday (Jan 21, 2016) from 6:00-8:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Ritchie passed away on Monday (Jan 18th) at her daughters home surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving are her children Joseph Ritchie; Margaret Hurteau and Phyllis Garman all of Ogdensburg, Susan Ritchie of Florida; ½ brother George Rumble of MI; sisters Anita Kennedy of Ogdensburg and Iona Singh of MI; ½ sister Agnes Haskins of FL and three grandsons Matthew, Sean & Lukas Garman.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph E. Ritchie; a son-in-law Douglas Hurteau; a brother John “Ben” Rumble and a ½ brother Marc Rumble.
Phyllis was born on November 8, 1921 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Jack & Evelyn (Gagnon) Rumble. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and the A. Barton Hepburn School of Nursing where she earned her registered nurses degree. She later married Joseph E. Ritchie on October 27, 1949 at St. Claire Church in Chicago.
During her career she was employed as a nurse at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, residential private duty and St. Joseph’s Nursing home until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish and the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital Alumni Association.
She enjoyed her camp on the St. Lawrence River where she also constructed the sea wall herself, reading, praying the rosary every day, knitting, gardening, sailing, traveling and spending time with her family.
