

Funeral services for Ernest E. Murdock, age 91 of the Plimpton Road in DePeyster will be held on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at 3:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Bice officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery with full military honors.
Calling hours will be held also on Wednesday from 12:00noon until the time of the funeral. Mr. Murdock passed away at his home on Saturday morning (July 16th) with his children by his side.
Surviving are his three children, Robert Murdock & his wife Sharon of DePeyster NY, Michael & his wife Candy of Morriston FL, and Renee Baxter & her husband Steven of Norwood NY; six grandchildren Michelle (Royal) Martin, Colleen (Keith) Kelley, Kevin Murdock & his companion April Lafaver, Lisa (Augie) Bonno, Leslie Meyer & Vincent Halpern; three sisters Ruby Sterling, Barbara Hand and Luella Robinson; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary and four brothers Robert, Stewart, Lyle & William Murdock.
Ernest was born on February 19, 1925 in Hammond NY, a son of the late Joseph & Barbara (Brotherson) Murdock. He attended schools in Hammond and Heuvelton. He entered the US Army on July 8, 1943 seeing the front-line duty with the medical troops of the 79th Division Ninth Army as a company aid man attached to an infantry unit. He was seriously wounded on February 23, 1945 during the Ruhr campaign in Germany and subsequently suffered the amputation of his right leg. After receiving treatment at an Evacuation Hospital in Belgium, he was hospitalized in the 34th General Hospital in England. He served in the Normandy offensive, Belgium and Germany. He was honorably discharged on January 29, 1946 receiving many medals to include the Purple Heart.
On May 4, 1946 he married Mary Bresett at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Heuvelton with Rev. Harold Martin officiating. During his career he worked as a veterinary assistant, construction worker, working on the St. Lawrence Seaway Project and also worked for the Town of DePeyster Highway Department. In 1966, he then began his employment with Corning Glass Company in Canton as a truck driver until his retirement. He and his wife Mary also raised Angus Beef cattle for several years on their farm in DePeyster. Ernie enjoyed raising cattle and quails throughout the years.
