

A Funeral Mass for Francis “Chappy” L. Demers, age 86 of Ogdensburg will be held at 10:00am on Friday (March 18, 2016) at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Entombment will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Demers passed away on Monday (March 14, 2016) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Surviving is his wife Beverly; a son David (Laurie) Demers of Ogdensburg; two daughters Beverly (John) Newman of Boynton, FL and Wendy (Michael) Parker of W. Chazy, NY; two brothers Hector (Norma) Demers of Ogdensburg and Lionel Demers of Austibula, OH; two sister-in-laws Martha Demers and Pat Demers both of Ogdensburg; daughter-in-law Jane Demers of Claire, NY; six grandchildren, Tiffany Demers, Todd Demers, Alex Demers, Kyle Demers, Samantha Newman and John Newman II; 4 great-grandchildren Austin Girard, June Demers, John Newman III and Madison Newman along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A son Robert Demers; two daughters Trudy Rodrigues and Martha Casselman and four brothers Ernest, Joseph, Victor & Wilfred Demers and a granddaughter Elizabeth Demers predeceased him.
“Chappy” was born on Sept 8, 1929 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Adelard & Eva (Richard) Demars. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued his education at Willow Brooke School of Nursing in Staten Island, NY. A previous marriage ended and he later married Beverly W. Welsh on November 18, 1978 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg.
During his career, he was employed at Alcoa, Dr. Snow’s Physician’s office and the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center where he retired from in 1989 with 31 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, watching NASCAR races, playing poker and spending time with his family.
