A Funeral Mass for J. Michael Martin age 59, of Hammond, NY, will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at St. Peter’s Church in Hammond, NY at 11:00 AM. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 29, 2024, at Fox & Murray Funeral Home from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. A reception will follow the funeral mass at the Brier Hill Community Center. Michael passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, November 22, 2024. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fox & Murray Funeral Home

J. Michael “Mike” Martin was born May 18, 1965, to Leopold and Rollande (Campeau) Martin, the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Hammond Central in 1983. Mike spent 40 years of his life on the family farm, later taking it over with his four brothers. In addition to his work on the farm, Mike enjoyed a second career as a bus driver for local schools, most recently with Ogdensburg Free Academy, where he made lasting connections with the students and staff.

Mike’s commitment to his community was also reflected in his volunteer work. He proudly served as a member of the Hammond Fire and Rescue for 35 years, offering his time and energy to help others. His favorite contribution to the Fire and Rescue was running the children's game and prizes at the Hammond Field Days. On April 13, 1991, Mike married Tisa King. While their marriage later ended in divorce, they remained close friends and co-parents throughout the years.

Mike had a deep love for sports. Whether it was watching local high school games or cheering on his favorite professional teams — the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Yankees — sports brought him joy. Mike also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs, cats, chickens, and cows, and he enjoyed spending time at the fire hall and helping schoolchildren however he could.

Mike is survived by his children Samantha Martin (Shawn Woods) of Heuvelton and Colin (Shelby) Martin, Magnolia. DE; his grandson Lincoln; his siblings Ginette Martin of North Plainfield. NJ, Bernard (Mary Ellen) Martin of Hammond, Nicole (Max) Milsap of Hammond, Jeanne (Sandi) Tyo-Martin of Canton, Theresa (Humberto) Francesa of Potsdam, Dennis Martin of Hammond, and Donald (Suzanne) Martin of Hammond, and several nephews, nieces, and extended family that he was very close to. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother Pierre (Pete) Martin.
