Calling hours will be held prior to the service at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home from 11:00am to 1:30pm. Mrs. Barr passed away at the Canton Potsdam Hospital on April 4th surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving is her husband Ralph Barr of Norfolk, two sons William (Sherri) Fisher of Albany, and Gregory Fisher of Potsdam; two daughters Elizabeth “Liz” (Larry) Cambalik of Highland, NY and Molly Fisher of Princeton, NJ; grandchildren Lindsay Chlus, Jason Chlus, Mykel Kulkarni, Kristina Kulkarni, Lauryn Kulkarni & Isaac Signorelli, Amanda (Brian) Marzella, Mallory Fisher, Alex Fisher & Misael VirissimodeMura, Benjamin Fisher and Tory Fisher; great-grandchild Willa Jane Signorelli; and a brother Wayne Carpenter of Albany.
Betsy was predeceased by her first husband John Fisher in 1994; a son George Fisher; four brothers Leo, Bernard “Bing”, Alan & Roland Carpenter and a sister Arlene Bertrand.
She was born on November 23, 1937 in Watertown NY, a daughter of Leo & Irene Carpenter. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued her studies at Potsdam State earning a Masters Degree in Education. After the loss of her first husband, she later found love with Ralph Barr and the couple was married on Aug 29, 2009 at the Church of Visitation in Norfolk by Fr. Amyot.
Besty worked as a teacher and professor at the SUNY Potsdam Campus Learning Center and college. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, quilting, being on the St. Lawrence River, traveling, gardening, attending church and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
