John "Jack" E. McNamara

A Funeral Mass for John Egan “Jack” McNamara Sr. 85, of Russell and formerly of Ogdensburg will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday (July 18, 2012) at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (July 17, 2012) from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. McNamara passed away at his home on Saturday (July 14, 2012).

Surviving are five sons and their wives, Tim and Robin of Madrid NY, Pat and Mindy of Ogdensburg NY, Bryan of Potsdam NY, Sean of Ogdensburg NY, and James and Kathi of Degrasse NY; a daughter Martha Thompson and her husband Terry of Heuvelton, NY; twenty grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers Richard McNamara, Dan McNamara & his wife Pai-Lien “Sue”and Don McNamara all of South Colton NY, Michael McNamara & his wife Ellen of Pierrepont NY; sisters Nancy (McNamara) Lenney & her husband William of Naples,FL and Martha (McNamara) Druke & her husband John of Kirkville NY.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Mary Lou (Breen) McNamara; a son, John Egan McNamara, Jr; brothers Robert, Bernard, James, Douglas and David McNamara; and a sister Doris (McNamara) Thabault.

Jack was born November 17, 1926 In Ogdensburg NY. The son of John Francis and Clara (Gillespie) McNamara. Jack married Mary Lou Breen on June 20th, 1953 in Ogdensburg NY. Jack was employed at the St. Lawrence State Hospital as a Mason and retired. He also worked at the St. Lawrence County Savings Bank. Jack was a noted “cook” serving many dinners and banquets at the Ogdensburg Country Club, VFW and other clubs in the area on the weekends. For many years he enjoyed going to St. Mary’s Cathedral, and often helped with the weekly collection. Jack loved the outdoors, gardening, tinkering with clocks and playing and watching golf. Jack and Mary Lou enjoyed their time together with their family, frequently watching their grandchildren on many weekends, and Jack was always the cook for Sunday Dinner. Jack was most noted for his whistle and wit. In later years, Jack enjoyed making candy and pickles, and visiting many friends at Price Chopper, Fays, and Hackett’s where he was blessed with preferred parking spots for his car.
