

Funeral services for Leonard H. Sargent, age 91 of Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday (February 28, 2015) at 11:00am at Foxwood Memorial Park with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Mr. Sargent passed away Friday February 20, 2015 at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility.
Surviving are his daughters Mary Lou Sweeney & her husband Patrick and Barbara Tucci & her husband Carl both of Ogdensburg; a sister Winifred England of Ogdensburg; a brother Richard Sargent & his wife Janice of Ogdensburg; six grandchildren Brian (Amy) Sweeney, Kevin (Jennifer) Sweeney both of Ogdensburg, Jacqueline (Mike) Farrell of Rochester, Matthew (Erin) Tucci of Canastota, Jill (Jeff) Holt of Seattle, WA, Jennifer (Jeremy) LeRoux of Trumansburg, NY; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Frances “Jean” Sargent on Dec 28, 2014; three sisters Shirley Beldock, Norma Abar and Sister Maria Goretti and two brothers Allen & Kenneth Sargent.
Leonard was born on February 1, 1924 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Alfred & Jenny (Lesperance) Sargent. He attended local schools for his education and enlisted in the US Army in 1943. He fought in the European Theatre of Wars, and made the invasion into Normandy, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He later married Frances Jean Miller on November 20, 1946 at Notre Dame Church with Msgr. A.D. Charbonneau officiating.
During his career he was employed at Standard Shade Roller, worked on the Seaway Construction Project, Ogdensburg Creamery, Wadhams Hall and the US Postal Service. He retired in 1980. Prior to entering the Army, Leonard was an amateur boxer who also shared his skills teaching young adults. He also enjoyed playing softball and baseball.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, Am Vets and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, playing horseshoes, darts, watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren.
