

Paul W. Schermerhorn age 83 of Hammond, died December 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in the spring. Services will be held privately for his family.
Paul is survived by his wife Marlene; two sons Ryan Schermerhorn & his wife Kari of Macomb and Clay Schermerhorn & his wife Nichole of Beaver Falls; four daughters Nancy Brady & her husband Jason of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Dawn Merna & her husband Bill of Ogdensburg, Polly Sergel of Macomb and Cheryl Schermerhorn of Owensboro, KY along with 13 grandchildren and 6-great-grandchildren.
Paul was born on March 27, 1931 in Hammond NY, a son of the late Paul & Mary (Wood) Schermerhorn. He graduated from Hammond School and later married Marlene M. Howard at the Hammond Presbyterian Church with Rev. Campbell officiating their marriage. In March of 2011 they renewed their wedding vows in honor of their 60th Anniversary.
He and his wife operated a farm near Oak Point for 32 years and in 1983 the couple moved to the village of Hammond, where he remained working as a private contractor until he retired in 1994. He was a member of the Hammond School Board and Town of Hammond Planning Board and former Deacon and Trustee of the Hammond Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, going to his cottage on St. Lawrence River, his dog Colby and spending time with his family.
