I a m sad for the loss of a friend from my youth who, with other young men on the West Side of Gouverneur, helped me in making a way through growing up while following him through his friendship and adventures in the extended neighborhood. Phil's group was about 16 years old and I was 12. I still remember Phil's mother's peanut butter fudge, and the warm welcome always given me by his parents.
I only saw Phil occasionally after I reached high school, but remember him coming to basketball games after his discharge from the Navy. The last time I saw Phil was several years ago when he and Jean were having ice cream in Redwood. We chatted for a bit and I found the older, but still the gracious friend from an earlier and important time.
I share the grief with Phil's family and friends of our loss of a good friend .
