Roland J. Newcombe

Surviving is his wife Rebecca “Ann” Newcombe; a sister Eleanor Holtz of Farmington NY; three step-sons Jordan (Morgan) Vancort of Gouverneur, Dillon Vancort & Nathan Vancort both of DePeyster; a grandson Arlo; along with many nieces & nephews that loved him dearly.

He was predeceased by his first wife Marcia in 2010; three brothers Elmer, Donald & Gary Newcombe; and three sisters Hazel Kommer, Carol Neil & Virginia Wheat.

Roland was born on December 7, 1943 in DePeyster, a son of the late Floyd & Miranda (Poor) Newcombe. He graduated from Heuvelton High School and was later married to Marcia A. Bush on July 8, 1978.

During his career he farmed in his younger years to help support his family, and later worked at a canning company in Rochester. He returned to the North Country and became the owner & operator of the Newcombe General Store. Roland was again married to Rebecca “Ann” Duquette and the couple continued to operate their collectable business until he began to fail in health.

Roland was an avid fisherman and he loved being outdoors cutting wood, growing a garden, canning food, making maple syrup, going to the casino, watching TV and living in the North Country.
