

Funeral services for Dr. Willard Glen Conrad, age 82 of County Rt 33 Madrid and formerly of Schenectady and Bolton Landing will be held on Saturday (August 6, 2011) beginning with calling hours at 10:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Waddington.
Mr. Conrad died early Tuesday morning at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. Surviving are his children Daniel Conrad of Schenectady; Lori MacIntosh & her husband Doug of Madrid, Lisa Conrad & her companion Richard Watkins of Lake Luzerne, NY; a brother Blaine Conrad & his wife Nancy of Missouri; a sister Roberta Brunnquell of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren Siobhaun MacIntosh of Brighton, MA, Jeremy MacIntosh & his fiancee Ashley Wells of York Springs, PA, Shaina & Shelby MacIntosh of Waddington, Mary Conrad of Stephentown, NY; a longtime friend Roderick MacIntosh of Madrid and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Glen was predeceased by his wife J. Loretta and a sister Shirley.
He was born on July 10, 1929 in Home Camp, PA a son of the late Donald & Mildred (Rimer) Conrad. He graduated from Dubois High School and continued his education at Penn State University where he obtained a PhD. in Psychology. He enlisted in the US Army from 1946 to 1948. He then married Julia “Loretta” Spain on February 19, 1955 in Syracuse, NY. During his early career he was employed at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester as a Child Psychologist and then transferred to the Schenectady County Child Guidance Center where he worked from 1962 until his retirement. After his retirement he consulted part-time for the Montgomery County Cerebral Palsy in Amsterdam, N.Y.
Since moving to the North Country Glen was an active member of the Potsdam SOAR Group (for lifelong learning). In his younger days, he was very active in a men’s bowling league and served on the Mohonasen School Board. He loved to camp, dance, golf, play cards, fish, hunt, garden, and spend time at his camp in Trout Lake. He was very involved in political discussions with friends and he and his wife loved to spend winters in Myrtle Beach.
He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him, personally and professionally. His positive outlook on life and his gentle, caring spirit inspired anyone who was lucky enough to know him. His life was a testament to kindness, generosity, loyalty and humor.
