Deborah June Reynolds was born on December 2, 1951 in Oklahoma City to Bill and Patricia Reynolds. She was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated with the Class of 1970, the first class to graduate from the new Putnam City West High School. She enrolled at Central State University where she studied business.
Debbie’s life found deeper meaning in September of 1971 when she agreed to go on a blind date with Dar Torres, a young man with whom she shared mutual friends. Dar and Debbie had several things in common including her favorite color blue, a short six weeks later they were so deeply in love they decided to get married. Dar’s Air Force unit was activated, forcing him to move to Minot Air Force Base in Minot, ND. Debbie, who was pregnant with their first son, was left to stay with her parents. Following Chris’s birth, both relocated to North Dakota to join Dar. In 1975 the family returned to OKC for a short time before moving to New Orleans where Dar spent three years working for Sun Oil.
In 1979 the Torres family came back to Oklahoma City where they have resided ever since. Debbie spent several years in the home raising her two sons. In the mid 1980’s she accepted a position as a medical coding specialist and bookkeeper for Dr. Sam Oliphant’s eye clinic. She was later employed by Dr. Anthony Shanbour for nearly a decade and most recently she spent 7 years working at Summit Medical Center. Debbie made many wonderful friends and memories during her time in the medical community.
Debbie is best described as an introverted extrovert who loved to dance, collect moose figurines, and watch HGTV. She was respected by her friends and co-workers for her integrity and “by the book” way of doing things. She also enjoyed spending time taking care of her plants, traveling with Dar, and spoiling her dogs. Being an only child caused her to have a profound love for her parents. She was a daddy’s girl and she enjoyed cooking many of the dishes her father had made for her when she was growing up.
Family was always her top priority and you didn’t have to spend much time with her to realize how proud she was of them. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her boys and their spouses and children. She was particularly fond of her Friday night movies and cookie decorating with her grandkids. Debbie truly found her soulmate in Dar and they loved each other more on their final day together than they did on their first day together.
Debbie Torres was a loyal wife, a proud mother, a loving grandmother, a caring daughter, and a trusted friend. Her kindness and compassion left an unmistaken mark on the lives of those around her and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father Bill Reynolds and her aunt Beth Harkins. Left behind to carry on her legacy of kindness and compassion are her husband of nearly five decades, Dar Torres; mother Patricia June Reynolds; two sons: Christopher Brian Torres and wife Shelly and Adam Gregory Torres and wife Cindy; four grandchildren: Hannah Christine Torres, Samantha Rosemary Torres, Alexander Noah Torres, and Christina Joy Torres.
