

Elton “Jimmy" Fields loved music, especially big band music. He was a gifted musician that could pick up any instrument and play. His favorite was the bass fiddle. In 1945, at the age of 16, he joined Floyd Davis and his Sons of Oklahoma and toured multiple states and venues. In 1948 he joined the Mickey Reynolds Orchestra.
In 1950 he was drafted into the Army, and before leaving he married the love of his life, Janet McFarland, a hometown girl from his birthplace if Leedey, Oklahoma. He served in the Army until 1954 as a dental assistant in Fort Ord, California.
After his tour in the Army Jimmy and Janet returned to Oklahoma and Jimmy returned to his music career playing his bass fiddle for the Eddie Coontz Show on KWTV channel 9 in Oklahoma City.
After the birth of his first child in 1960, Kenneth, Jimmy retired from his music career and began his career working for NCCI, where he in 1963 transferred to the Salt Lake City office. In 1964, his second child was born, Pamela, and in 1966 his third child was born, Tamara. In 1968, Jimmy and his family relocated to Denver Colorado where they lived until 1971 then transferred back to Oklahoma City to take charge of the OKC office where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Jimmy lived in Oklahoma City until his passing on August 27th, 2021.
He was survived by Kenneth Fields of Huntsville, Alabama. Pamela Fields of the home, Tamara McCourry, of the Colony, TX, Kevin Fields, Gerald Davis, Sarah McCourry, Jonathan McCourry, Logan McCourry, Kristina Fields, James Fields, Verna Mae Kirkham of McLoud, OK.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City.
