Madene was born in Guymon, Oklahoma on March 31, 1927, and was one of thirteen children born to Leon and Dottie Whitney. She attended grade school in Guymon and middle school in Carmen, Oklahoma. She lived at the Odd Fellows Home in Carmen from May 1939 to August 1943, which she described as a wonderful time of her childhood. She then moved to Dennison, Texas where she graduated high school and later worked at Perrin Air Force Base. She married Noah C. Hixson and had one daughter, Annette.
In 1965, she married Charles (Mac) E. McCormick and moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma. She worked for the Veterans Administration Regional Office until her retirement. She enjoyed being active in her church by playing the piano, doing bookkeeping and anything else that needed to be done. She spent a lot of her time helping others with transportation to appointments, shopping or anything she identified they might need. She also loved to travel, feed and watch the birds and spend time growing amazing flowers.
When Mac passed away in 2005, she moved to the Vineyard Cottages in Oklahoma City to be close to her daughter, Annette. She continued her acts of service helping anyone in need and also enjoyed the tremendous circle of friends and support there. As she aged and her health declined, the community provided an amazing amount of support and help for her which was truly a blessing.
Madene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mac of 40 years; 11 siblings; daughter Maureen McCormick Stamper; son Charles (Charlie) McCormick. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Whitney Hall age 102 of Salinas, CA; daughter Annette Hixson Woodall and husband Scott Woodall of Edmond, OK; son Charles (Mike) McCormick and wife June from Wisconsin.
Madene was a strong Christian woman who lived her faith daily. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and overwhelming desire to help others and her life was a reflection of Christ’s love. She will be greatly missed by her family and anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
