Greta Don Streit

She grew up in Crescent, Oklahoma, and graduated from Crescent High School in 1955. After graduation, she married Milburn Streit on July 2. They were married for 42 years before he passed away on April 25, 1997.

Greta was a very industrious woman who was, in many ways, ahead of her time. She certainly had boundless energy! When the family moved to California during the 1960s, she went to beauty school. Upon her return to Oklahoma, she began working as a hairdresser, and eventually owned her own beauty shop, overseeing all the operations while still working as a hairdresser. She eventually sold the shop, and continued working until 2011. Throughout her life, Greta was an extremely hard worker, who somehow found time to work full time, rear three children, cook a hot meal nearly every night, sew clothes for her daughters, participate in her church, play bridge, knit, bowl, and also golf. She also loved to garden, read books, and listen to music.

Greta leaves behind a legacy of love and hard work. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters Katrina (Bud) Bruley and Kathy Jo (Patrick) Fitzgerald; her sister, Patricia (Greg) Brown; her brother, Melvin (Sonny) Harman; her grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Black, John (Stefanie) Heden, Jennifer Black, David Heden, Kelly (Maggie) Heden; great grandchildren Brooke Black, Aria Heden, and Nora Heden. Her daughter, Stephanie, her grandson, Nicholas Streit, and her son, Michael Streit all preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) in Greta’s name.

A celebration of life service will be held on June 9, 2018, at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13313 North Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City. The service will be held in the Historic Cemetery Chapel at 1:00 p.m.
