Landis was born in Columbus, Ohio to Kenneth Ellsworth Legge and Luella Caroline Cox. In childhood, Landis’ family moved to Midland, Texas where he met and later married Barbara Ann Barron, his loving wife of 60 years, until her passing in 2018. They made their first home in Midland, later in Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and Edmond.
Landis is survived by his children, Carol Harris, Hershel Dewayne Legge, Sharon Bennett and husband Richard (Rick); grandchildren, Danelle Zemke and husband Ryan, Jessica Bennett and husband Matthew, Michael Legge and fiancé Alana, James Landis Legge, and Tristen Legge; and great-grandchildren, Roark Zemke and Everlee Legge.
He is also survived by his brother John (Jack) Legge and wife Ruth, of Liscomb Mills, N.S. Canada; sister Francis (Fran) Walters and husband Donnie, of Enid, OK; brother-in-law Norman (Sonny) Barron and wife Phyllis, of Harrah, OK; and sister-in-law Donna Steele and husband Cliff, of Wichita Falls, TX.
Landis was predeceased by his parents, beloved wife Barbara, and brothers; Kenneth (Kenny) Legge and James (Jim) Legge.
Landis spent a lifetime taking pride in any work he did to provide a stable and loving home for his family. His dedication to being a good father, his loyalty to family and friends, and his strong work ethic, did not go unnoticed by his children and grandchildren, they saw in him, a strong role model for living a purposeful and productive life. Landis spent the majority of his working career as the Manager of Valley Tree Farm. In retirement, he was the caregiver to his beloved wife Barbara until her passing, keeping the promise he made to her father when they married.
Landis found great happiness in a close relationship with Eileen Weides. Our family took comfort in knowing his days were full of love and companionship. Because of this loving relationship, not only are we comforted in knowing his last wakeful moments were not spent alone, but we were given the opportunity to say goodbye as a family. Thank you Eileen.
In his last years, Landis continued purposeful work by delivering meals to elderly and disabled persons through Mobile Meals. Our family would appreciate your continued support or donations to Edmond Mobile Meals, in lieu of flowers.
We all will continue to feel his love, because he never left a conversation or a visit without a genuine “goodbye” and a sincere “I love you”.
