She was born on August 26, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas, to Al and Juanita Ness, both of whom preceded her in death. The eldest of 3 girls, Lynda was also preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Sue Hendrickson and Patricia Holloway.
Lynda graduated from Northtown Kansas City High School in 1964. On July 29, 1966, she married her soulmate Marc Ervin Garriott. Together they built a life grounded in love, compassion, and community. They were married 55 wonderful years until Marc’s passing on October 31, 2021.
Lynda was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a dear friend to all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Reginna “Ginna” Raye Garriott Sloan; grandsons Josh and Jarred Sloan, and Blaine Garriott; and 3 great-grandchildren Greyson, Phoenix and Harley Sloan. She was preceded in death by her son, Dhu-Andrew Paul Garriott.
Lynda retired from AT&T Lucent Technologies, where she took great pride in her work and never passed up an opportunity to learn something new. She eagerly enrolled in every class she could- arts & crafts, cake decorating, flower arranging – you name it. Her creativity and passion eventually led her to a job at Sam’s Club after retirement, where she brought joy to many through her stunning floral arrangements.
She was known in her family as the “Garage Sale Queen” – always on the hunt for treasures, bargains and the thrill of the find. But above all else, Lynda had a heart for people, She and Marc opened their home to countless foster children over the years, raising them with the same love and care they gave their own. After their own children had grown, they continued serving their community as dedicated CASA volunteers, advocating for children in need.
If you were lucky enough to meet Marc and Lynda, you likely felt like family within moments. They had a way of making everyone feel welcome, seen and loved. She had a beautiful smile, open heart, and generous spirit that will be missed beyond words.
Lynda will be laid to rest 12pm Friday, July 18, 2025 at Memorial Park Cemetery 13400 N Kelley Ave. The family invites those who knew and loved Lynda to join them in honoring her life and sharing words in her memory.
Thank you for being part of her story!
