Marilyn Ann Thackray

On Saturday, May 21st, 2022 Marilyn Ann Thackray passed away at the age of 89 surrounded by her two children. She was born on August 8th, 1932 to Donald and Marian Patterson in Lorain, Ohio. She was the younger sister of Donna and older sister to Jack.

Marilyn graduated from Stephens College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later received her Master's in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma.

On June 20th, 1953 Marilyn married the love of her life Richard ( Dick) Thackray of Wausau, WI. They raised two children Richard (Rick) Thackray and Susette (Thackray) Tucker.

Marilyn was a homemaker when her children were young, but she later decided to go back to school and earn her Master's Degree. Marilyn worked at Red Rock Mental Health Services and eventually opened a private practice providing individual and family counseling.

Traveling and experiencing different cultures fascinated both Marilyn and Dick. They both loved the Southwest culture of New Mexico. Dick passed away un-expected in 1996 and Marilyn, being the independent and adventurous woman she was, sold her house and moved to Taos, New Mexico where she started a new chapter of her life. She began pursuing new interests in hiking, trout fishing, and immersed herself in the Native American culture. She enjoyed photography, painting, making pottery, and jewelry. Marilyn moved back to Oklahoma after 10 years to be closer to family and friends.

Marilyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was passionate about helping others and living life to the fullest. Marilyn will be sorely missed by all that knew her, but the memory of how she touched our lives will live on in us forever.

Marilyn was predeceased by her Husband, Parents, Sister, and Brother. She is survived by her 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Marilyn will be held Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 27, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Memorial Park Historic Chapel, 13400 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131 with a graveside service to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Christopher Jones, Tyler Jones, Bryce Kennedy, David Patterson, Jeff Patterson, and Natalie Thackray.
