EDMOND, Okla. – Paul Richard Boren, 70, of Edmond, died February 24, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. A private burial ceremony will be held March 2, 2012 in the Memorial Park Cemetery followed by an open memorial service at 11:00 am in the New Covenant United Methodist Church with the Pastor Dr. Adrian Cole officiating.
Paul was born January 22, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late John W. & Callie F. Boren. Paul moved to Duncan, Oklahoma, in 1957, where he attended high school. Paul excelled in high school where he was awarded the coveted Crossman Award in 1960 and was the commencement speaker at graduation, but his very best memory of high school was falling in love with his wife, Sue Nell Crutchfield, which resulted in 50 years of marriage.
Paul graduated from Oklahoma City University. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years and held a variety of positions in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma; St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri; and Basking Ridge, New Jersey. He enjoyed numerous assignments related to the standardization and computerization of customer billing. These assignments involved the mechanization of billing for Southwestern Bell; the design and implementation of billing system changes required after divestiture of the AT&T companies; and, finally, the planning functions required to provide standard billing procedures for the creation of the new AT&T Company.
After a successful career, Paul was able to retire in 1991 in St. Louis at the young age of 50. Paul and Sue initially moved to Edmond, OK, then decided to move to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, to enjoy their retirement years. Paul loved playing golf and together they went hiking and fishing on Lake Ouachita. With the birth of a grandson in Edmond, they decided grandkids were even more beautiful than the gorgeous trees and the tranquil life of the Village. They moved back to Edmond where Paul resided till his death.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Sue Nell Boren of the family home; two sons, Charlton Boren & his wife Brooke of Las Cruces, N.M., and Paul Boren Jr. & his wife Jenny of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandsons, Jacob and Benjamin Boren of Las Cruces, N.M., Paul III and Lucas Boren of Edmond, Oklahoma; two brother-in-laws, Joe Crutchfield & his wife Anita of Boerne, TX, and Jim Crutchfield & his wife Jane Ann of Edmond, OK; and four cherished nieces and one nephew. Paul was preceded in death by his granddaughter Mary Boren of Edmond, OK, in 2002.
Paul Boren will always be remembered for being a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and leader of the Boren family. The family always looked to Paul for wisdom and guidance and his grandsons adored their “Papa”. He had the opportunity to know the Lord and be a part of his church and community.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Infant Crisis Services, 4224 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
