She was born on March 4, 1934, in Manhattan, New York. She worked in data entry and retired from the University of Central Florida. She dearly loved her cats, Sarah and Molly, and took great joy in feeding the outside neighborhood cats. A true homebody, she still enjoyed getting out—especially for shopping and eating out. She was known for her mornings, often announcing she needed her bagel and coffee, proudly keeping that New York touch. If offered something healthy, she made it clear she didn’t want it simply because it was healthy. Her grandchildren remember sleepovers filled with junk food, TV shows, pool time, and Disney trips. She never let anyone leave without something to take home and her familiar, “I’m just going to the railing,” as she walked them out.
In her later years, she was blessed to have Destiny Delgado by her side, who became like another granddaughter and a dear companion.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Barker; granddaughters Carey Schreier (Eric Schreier), Cathy Prevatt (Matthew Prevatt), and Casey Boatright (Joshua Boatright); grandson James Mayo Jr. (Dacey Mayo); and great-grandchildren Matthew Keith, Andrew Keith, Devon McKinney, Owen Schreier, Jameson Prevatt, Ryan Prevatt, James Boatright, Liam Mayo, and Braylenn Mayo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Carey; her son-in-law, Jason Barker; and her great-grandson, Jordan Ellis.
She will be dearly missed.
