We gather here today not in sorrow, but in celebration of the remarkable life of Edmund
Henry Neusch, a man whose journey was defined by love, dedication, and an
unwavering spirit. Edmund, affectionately known as Ed, left this world on January 11,
2024, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 91.
Edmund's journey began on December 19, 1932, in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, born to
Mabel Gertrude Rothrock and Edmund Rudolph Neusch. Growing up alongside his
sisters Ruth and Dorothy and baby brother Raymond, Ed's early years were shaped by
the resilience of surviving the Great Depression and the deep-rooted values instilled by
his family.
In 1951, at the age of 18, Ed graduated from Sayre High School, embarking on a path
that would lead him to join the United States Army post-World War II. His military
service took him to Germany, where he earned the nickname "Smokey" and graduated
from Chef School, showcasing his culinary talents that would bring joy to many
throughout his life.
On January 17, 1954, at the age of 21, Edmund married Maria Karolina Duttler in
Gersthofen, Bavaria, Germany, beginning a love story that spanned 59 years. Together,
they welcomed four children into the world – Maria E., Edmund Jr., Sandra Ann, and
Andrew Joseph – each a testament to the enduring love they shared.
Edmund's journey took an unexpected turn when he, alongside his wife Maria, decided
to leave a secure job at Westinghouse to embark on a new adventure in Orlando,
Florida. There, he became an electrician at Boyd Electric and then dedicated another 15
years of service to Orange County Public Schools until his well-deserved retirement.
Beyond his professional life, Ed's commitment to service extended to his community. He
served as a Volunteer Fireman at Barton Shores Firehouse, and his passion for helping
others led him to graduate from the Florida State Fire College in Ocala, FL. Ed's hands
were skilled not only in fixing electrical issues but also in renovating and selling fixer upper
homes, reflecting his tireless work ethic and love for transforming spaces.
In his leisure time, Ed found joy in tending to his expansive garden, fishing, enjoying a
cold beer with neighbors at Fort Pitt, and engaging in lively political debates. His
laughter, humor, and zest for life created an environment where everyone felt welcome.
He never harbored a negative thought or spoke a bad word about someone just
because they were less fortunate, looked different than he, a different religion, or from
another country. All people were equal in Ed’s eyes.
Edmund faced the inevitable challenges that life presented, losing his mother, father,
sisters, and, in 2013, his beloved wife, Maria Karolina. In July 2021, he experienced the
heartbreaking loss of his daughter Maria E. Despite these trials, Ed's strength and
resilience shone through.
Edmund leaves behind a legacy that transcends generations. His love for gardening,
animals, charitable causes, his sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to family will
forever be etched in our hearts. He is survived by his children Edmund Jr., Sandra Ann,
and Andrew Joseph, his grandchildren Patricia, Andrew Jr., and Emily, his brother
Raymond, sister-in-law Karen, son-in-law Patrick Sullivan, daughter-in-law Tina, and
numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Edmund Henry Neusch's wish was simple: to be remembered with laughter at his jokes
and to carry on his legacy of compassion by feeding homeless animals. Today, as we
celebrate his life, let us honor that wish, and remember Ed as a beacon of love and
resilience. May he rest in eternal peace.
A memorial service for Edmund will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at 8092 - Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill, 2420 Harrell Road, Orlando, FL 32817.
