Born on December 28, 1966 in an ambulance in Albany , NY. John graduated from Lake Howell High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from UCF in Business Administration. He worked for Penske Truck Leasing for 29 years. His dedication, integrity, and compassion touched many lives.
John’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a husband and father. He loved his wife, Bethany, and his son, Jackson, and daughter, Jillian. He was never more happy than when he was watching his son play lacrosse at University of Vermont and University of Maryland. John spent many hours on the sidelines watching his daughter play softball. He often kidded what will we do when we don’t have any more games to attend. He was an incredible dad who was a role model to them every day.
He never failed to give anyone in the room a hard time but always brought a smile to everyone’s face. His friends have made his last name a verb “pulling a Canfield” to always be the life of the party and then disappear without telling anyone. He was always there for anyone who needed him and would give them the shirt off his back.
Everyone who knew him from the shortest amount of time to the longest felt his genuine character.
John is survived by his loving wife, Bethany Canfield; his son, Jackson, and daughter, Jillian; his mother, Noreen Hazard, his two sisters, Denise and Melissa. He was a beloved uncle and great uncles to many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 11am with a reception to follow at Interlachen Country Club.
