
John Edward Rawson, a beloved and esteemed member of our community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the age of 80 in the serene town of Winter Park, Florida. Born on August 25, 1944, in the historic city of Worcester, Massachusetts, John embarked on a life journey that was marked by remarkable achievements, unwavering dedication, and a profound passion for everything he pursued, specifically golf and writing. He lived true to his form, and his family recognized that he lived his life his way.
Throughout his illustrious career, John made significant contributions in the fields of Commercial Site Development in Florida and as a Golf Territory Manager in New England. After retiring from these successful endeavors, he channeled his creativity and love for storytelling into writing, resulting in the publication of two books that showcased his unique perspective and literary talent.
In addition to his professional achievements, John was a visionary leader and the founder of the AGO Amateur Golfers Organization. Under his guidance, the organization flourished and grew for an impressive 38 years, reflecting his commitment to fostering a community of golf enthusiasts and promoting the sport.
John was a proud and active member of the Winter Park Elks Lodge #1830, where he engaged in various activities and contributed to the lodge’s mission of serving the community. His dedication extended to the Bahia Shriners in Maitland, Florida, where he served with distinction for over 50 years since becoming a Mason in 1971. His unwavering commitment to these organizations was a clear testament to his generous spirit, his deep love for community, and his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
John shared a long and loving marriage with his beloved wife Carol Reese Rawson, with whom he fathered 3 children and then found love again when he married Doria Rawson, whom he was married to until her passing in 2022. Together, they helped raise a family that includes their children: Mark Rawson, Robert Rawson, Heather Rawson, and John’s stepchildren Chris Barker and Michele Anderson. John is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, who number four, and his ten great-grandchildren, who bring joy and laughter to the family. Additionally, he leaves behind his brother, David Rawson, who will continue to cherish the memories they shared.
John’s legacy is one that will endure through the lives of his family, friends, and the countless individuals he touched throughout his life. His kindness, wisdom, and passion for community will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. John Edward Rawson will never be forgotten, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in his footsteps.
