Alan was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on April 30th, 1947, the second oldest of 4 children born to Addie and Harley Hutsell. He spent his childhood growing up in the Oklahoma City and Wichita, Kansas metropolitan areas and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1965. Alan attended Oklahoma City University prior to being drafted to serve with the Army’s 25th Infantry division during the Vietnam War. While serving in Vietnam, Alan would sustain injuries that would play a big role for the remainder of his life.
Following the return from Vietnam and rehabilitation, Alan moved to Kansas City, Missouri. It was there he met and married his wife of 47 years Deena. They had 2 children, Casey and Kelly. Alan and family put down roots in Prairie Village, Kansas where they lived until the day of his death.
Alan was a lot of things – a son, brother, friend, Sooners and Chiefs fan, salesman, talker, husband and father. While he wasn’t perfect at any, he was great at all. Most of all, he loved his family and friends and the time he got to visit with people. He loved learning about their lives and sharing stories of his own.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Addie and Harley, as well as his brothers, Jeff and Mike. He’s survived by the love of his life, Deena; his son, Casey Hutsell, his wife Emily Hutsell and their 4 children, Harley (12), Max (10), Henry (8) and Reese (4) of Overland Park, Kansas; his daughter, Kelly Hutsell of Seattle, Washington; his daughter, Beverly Dixon, her husband, John Dixon and their daughters, Ashlyn (19) and Kaely (17) of Keller, Texas; sister Connie Handley of Watsonville, California, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned for Friday, April 12th, 2024 at 12:30 pm at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
