Barbara Jean McCoy, age 94, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024. A visitation for Barbara will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204. Private graveside service in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas.
Barbara was born in Topeka, Kansas. As a youth, she was involved in the 4-H club in the Topeka, Kansas area. After graduating from Topeka High School, she attended Emporia State Teachers college in Emporia, Kansas for two years. Due to her father passing at that time, she moved back to Topeka and finished her education in Accounting at Washburn University. She traveled around the United States frequently with her sister and mother. She worked at Sinclair Oil Company in the Kansas City area for several years as a bookkeeper. In 1962, she met her husband, Jim McCoy. She worked for the IRS in Kansas City as a data entry clerk for several years. She attended Overland Park Christian Church and played in the bell choir.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim McCoy; sister, Marilyn Dorse; and brother, LaMarr Smith.
Survivors include her son, Mike McCoy; daughter-in-law, Tonya McCoy; grandson, Alex McCoy; and granddaughter, Angela McCoy.
