Barbara Ann Peery, age 90, of Merriam, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at home with her daughter, Kathleen by her side. Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas. Graveside service will be 11:30 am on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 61st and Quivira Road, Shawnee, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Kathleen Vorderbruggen to offset medical and financial expenses incurred during Barbara’s illness.
Barbara was born on November 27, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri to Henry and Anna Soetaert. She was a registered nurse, graduate from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in orthopedics for 20+ years, then urology of several years, retired from working for six doctors when she was in her 70’s, but remained active in her church, Queen of the Holy Rosary and her social circle. Barbara was a military wife and mother of two sons and three daughters. Her husband, Joseph was a Korean/Vietnam Veteran, retired. She was a huge KC Royals fan, loved all sports, went to musicals, loved gardening, walking her dog and nature, but first and foremost, she loved God and her family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Henry Soetaert; her brother, Leonard Soetaert; her husband, Joseph E. Peery; brother-in-law, Kenny Agnew and her sister, Mary Agnew.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kathleen Vorderbruggen, Leslie Dillon, David Peery (Denise), Matt Peery, and Maureen Peery; brothers, Michael Soetaert and Bernie Soetaert; grandchildren, Brenden Peery and Matthew Peery; great-granddaughter, Kaydence Peery.
