Brenda Joyce Oubre “Bay”, 75, of Kansas City passed away August 26, 2021. Bay was born January 25, 1946 in Plaquemine, Louisiana to Herbert and Virginia Butler and was the youngest of five siblings. She graduated from Plaquemine High School, class of 1965 and proceeded to move to New York, where she attended American College and obtained her degree in Health Sciences. While living on the east coast, she welcomed two of her children into the world, Torie and Cory. Later she moved back to Louisiana where she married the love of her life, Larry Oubre Sr. on July 4, 1978. Together Bay and Larry had two additional children, Larry Jr. and Nicholas. One accomplishment Bay was very proud of was marching and protesting during the Civil Rights Movement. The simplest pleasures in life brought Bay so much joy, such as her family, dancing, cooking, enjoying her patio and spending time with all her grandchildren. Bay had a heart of gold and a way with words. She was an encourager to all and would remind you often that you can do anything you set your mind to and there is no such thing as ‘cant’ as it’s not even listed in the dictionary. Words could never describe the endless love she gave and was the matriarch of the family. Bay will be missed beyond measure.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Oubre Sr.; parents, Sherman and Virginia Deggs; sister, Catherine Butler and sister, Gloria Butler.
She is survived by her son, Cory Olden (Claire Olden); daughter, Torie Olden; son, Larry Oubre Jr.; son, Nicholas Oubre (Crystal Oubre) and daughter, Monica McCrimmon; her grandchildren, Ciara Olden, Anthony Oubre, Nathan Oubre, Michaela Oubre, Caia Olden, Corie Olden, Natalie Oubre, Cory “Manny” Olden, Abrianna Oubre, Nicholas Oubre Jr., Ava Oubre and Addison Oubre.
“The world changes from year to year. Our lives from day to day but, the love and memory of you shall never pass away”.
